Castles

The Dordogne is said to have 1,001 castles. They vary from magnificent fortresses dating to the 14th century to more recently built fairy-tale country estates. Many of them have stunning gardens, while others house small museums. Most of them are well-kept and can be visited after paying an entrance fee.
